Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking an experienced systems engineer for a 100% remote position with the Veterans Affairs portfolio. The role supports cloud applications, monitors large production systems, and ensures regulatory compliance.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot, document, and resolve outages while maintaining asset inventory and VA security standards. Required: 8+ years in a production environment, strong Linux/Windows skills, scripting, and IaC/CI-CD

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering or a related field, particularly in production environments.
• 3+ years of experience with SQL queries and monitoring.
• Experience with AWS/Azure cloud and maintaining large-scale production systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-level, day-to-day operational support of complex application cloud systems.
• Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
• Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data.
• Detect, isolate, document, report, and resolve outages during operations of scientific workstations.
• Accurately document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
• Work directly with the customer in most day-to-day activities.
• Respond to user calls regarding hardware and software problems and escalate when required.
• Communicate status of key problem statuses to users and senior management.
• Perform maintenance/installation of computing infrastructure.
• Maintain inventory of system assets and ensure VA security standards.
