Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead design, development, and deployment of cross-domain solutions for VA Data Modernization. This fully remote role is based in the United States and requires 12+ years in IT with deep Java, Spring, and API experience.

You will mentor mid-level engineers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive CI/CD and DevOps improvements while ensuring security and compliance across applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field and 12+ years of experience.
• Proficiency with Java frameworks such as Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and JPA.
• Strong experience with modern JavaScript and RESTful API design.
• OO design patterns and Java best practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and deployment of complex applications.
• Apply Agile methodologies to manage and deliver features.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to mid-level engineers.
• Define technical solutions aligned with business goals.
• Conduct code reviews and enforce best practices.
• Improve performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines and automate deployment.
