Job summary

GovCIO seeks a Senior Software Engineer to lead design, development, and deployment of cross-domain applications for VA Data Modernization. The role is fully remote in the United States, requiring expertise in Java/Spring, RESTful services, and modern JavaScript, with strong Agile experience.

You will mentor engineers, drive CI/CD pipelines, and ensure security, scalability, and maintainability across distributed teams. A bachelor’s degree plus 12 years of relevant experience is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field, plus 12 years’ experience.
• Strong expertise with Java frameworks: Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, JPA.
• Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript.
• Deep understanding of OOP, design patterns and Java best practices.
• RESTful web services and API design experience.
• Git version control (GitHub preferred).
• Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Excellent English communication (oral and written).
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and ORM tools.
• Unit/integration testing and TDD experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and deployment of complex applications in a cross-domain program.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to mid-level engineers.
• Define technical solutions aligned with business goals and architecture.
• Conduct code reviews and enforce software engineering best practices.
