Job summary

Intuit seeks a Staff Payroll Tax Processor to lead complex state and federal payroll tax defect resolution. You will own end-to-end cases, including notices, amendments, and corrections, while mentoring junior staff and improving processes for customers.

The role emphasizes deep tax knowledge, cross-state experience, and strong Excel skills, with a focus on shaping SOPs and knowledge bases for the team.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience focused on tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Independently drafts penalty abatement requests and agency response letters with documentation.
• Experience preparing amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (941-X, W-2c) across multiple states.
• Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law (FICA, FUTA, FITW) and state/local tax rules.
• Lead/senior SME experience with coaching junior staff.
• Advanced Excel skills for reconciliation and audit trails.
• Strong written communication for SOPs and KB articles.
• Equivalent experience accepted; degree preferred in Accounting/Finance/Business; CPP/EA differentiator.

Responsibilities

• Resolve the most complex State and Federal payroll tax notices in the queue end-to-end.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (Form 941-X, W-2c) across 10+ states.
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors across multiple quarters or jurisdictions.
• Maintain high productivity resolving corrections, amendments, and notices with accuracy.
• Monitor WIP, identify aging cases, and escalate blockers with root-cause analysis.
• Coach and support Senior Processors, sharing resolution techniques.
• Contribute to team meetings by sharing QA findings and SOP improvements.
• Identify trends and communicate findings with recommended resolutions.
