Job summary

Deckers Brands is seeking a Sr. Manager, AI Engineering to lead the enterprise AI platform, govern access to foundation models, and drive production AI solutions across teams. You will shape an end-to-end AI strategy and provide mentorship to AI engineers in a fast-paced, global environment.

The role emphasizes responsible AI controls, collaboration with security and privacy teams, and a strong focus on scalable, compliant AI deployments to support Deckers’ brands and digital transformation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in CS/Engineering or related field.
• 8–12 years of software, data, or ML engineering experience.
• 3–5+ years leading engineering teams in cloud-native environments.
• 3+ years delivering production AI or ML systems, incl. 2+ years building generative AI/LLM apps.
• Experience taking generative AI from concept to governed production with guardrails.

Responsibilities

• Own enterprise AI platform with governance for foundation models and retrieval patterns.
• Define reusable AI engineering patterns for RAG, agents, orchestration, and LLM architectures.
• Lead evaluation framework for AI systems including offline and online monitoring.
• Deliver AI apps into production for customer-facing and internal use cases.
• Manage production readiness, latency, availability, and cost per interaction.
• Track AI tooling landscape and migrate when models/providers change.
• Own roadmap and staffing plan for AI engineering.
• Mentor AI engineers and partner with external delivery teams.
• Establish production readiness bar with guardrails and incident response.
• Implement responsible AI policy with documentation and audit trails.
• Collaborate with business, data, security, and infra teams to scope use cases.
