Job summary

Deckers Brands seeks a Sr. Manager, AI Engineering to lead the enterprise AI platform, governance, and production-ready AI deployments. You will guide cross-functional teams across data, security, and engineering to bring AI applications from concept to scalable operations.

The role requires 8+ years in software/data/ML with 3+ years in leadership, plus hands-on work with retrieval augmented generation and foundation-model platforms. Remote-friendly US location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 8–12 years building production software, data, or ML systems.
• 3–5+ years leading engineering teams in cloud-native environments.
• 3+ years delivering production AI or ML systems, incl. 2+ years with generative AI/LLMs.
• Experience taking generative AI from concept to governed production with guardrails.
• Hands-on with retrieval augmented generation, agent frameworks, and orchestration patterns.
• Familiarity with foundation model platforms (AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI).
• Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own enterprise AI platform including governed access to foundation models and cost controls.
• Define reusable AI engineering patterns for retrieval augmented generation and orchestration.
• Lead evaluation framework for AI systems; offline/online quality, testing, and release criteria.
• Deliver AI apps to production across customer-facing and internal use cases.
• Manage production readiness, latency, availability, and cost per interaction.
• Monitor foundation models and tooling landscape; manage migrations and updates.
• Steer AI engineering roadmap and staffing aligned to business priorities.
• Mentor AI engineers and coordinate with external delivery partners.
• Set production safety controls, guardrails, human-in-the-loop, and incident response.
• Implement responsible AI policy, including risk docs, evidence, monitoring, and audits.
• Partner with business, data, security, and infra teams to scope and prioritize AI use cases.
