Job summary

Maximus is seeking a senior IBM COBOL Developer for the IRS client. This is a fully remote, full-time role requiring an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI).

You will lead COBOL development, review code, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver compliant tax processing solutions. Responsibilities include updating documentation, performing unit tests, and supporting production troubleshooting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI)
• At least four years of experience with IBM COBOL programming language
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities
• Experience with CICS
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of COBOL-based solutions meeting business requirements
• Evaluate new coding techniques and tools and implement where appropriate
• Update documentation such as FSPs/PRPs and Visio diagrams
• Track requirements and create/execute unit test cases
• Rewrite and optimize COBOL programs for efficiency
• Provide guidance and training to other developers
• Support testing, troubleshooting, and remediation of defects
• Interface with managers and technical staff to clarify program intent and issues
