Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to deliver production support for complex cloud systems as a remote role within the Veterans Affairs program. You will handle outages, monitoring, and on-call responsibilities while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in systems engineering, strong Linux/Windows skills, cloud experience (AWS/Azure), scripting, CI/CD, and IaC knowledge, with eligibility for Public Trust clearance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering or a related field, especially production environments.
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure Cloud, including S3, Step Functions, Batch, and CloudWatch.
• Strong Linux/Unix and Windows administration skills.
• Scripting in Python, Bash or PowerShell for automation.
• Experience with automation tools and IaC (CloudFormation).
• Knowledge of network protocols, VPN setup, and security best practices.
• Experience with monitoring tools and incident response.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-level, day-to-day operational support of complex application cloud systems.
• Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
• Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data.
• Detect, isolate, document, report, and resolve system outages or problems during operations.
• Accurately document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
• Work directly with the customer in most aspects of day-to-day activities.
• Respond to user calls regarding hardware and software problems; escalate when required.
• Communicate status of key problem statuses to users and senior management.
• Perform maintenance/installation of computing infrastructure.
• Maintain inventory of system assets and ensure VA compliance.
• Provide documentation, training, and support as assigned.
