Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) to deliver high-availability cloud-based systems in a remote U.S. setting.

You will support Veterans Affairs (VA) applications, manage outages, and implement continuous improvements across Linux/Windows environments. The role requires 8+ years in production systems, strong AWS/Azure and scripting skills, and expertise in CI/CD, IaC, and security compliance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, especially production environments.
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud services including S3, Step Functions, Batch, CloudWatch.
• Strong Linux/Unix and Windows administration skills.
• Scripting for automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Experience with configuration management and IaC tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, CloudFormation).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational support for complex application cloud systems.
• Identify, document, and resolve outages; collect diagnostics and restore operations.
• Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to resolve issues.
• Maintain system configuration and security compliance per VA standards.
• Assist with on-call production system support as needed.
