First Merchants Corporation is seeking an SBL Closing Specialist III to join our team. This role handles the complete closing process from approval through funding, ensuring SBA and internal bank compliance.

The position can be remote within our footprint and involves coaching staff and developing procedural protocols. Key duties include managing closing checklists, coordinating with customers and third parties, ordering appraisals and title work, and preparing LaserPro closing documents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or relevant field.
• 7+ years of related experience.
• Demonstrated management, leadership and coaching skills.
• LaserPro experience.
• Flexibility and adaptability/collaboration skills.
• Excellent listening skills and coachability.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, Excel.
• Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and written/verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple loan submissions/tasks in various stages.

Responsibilities

• Manage closing process from approval through funding while maintaining accurate files.
• Coach, mentor, and develop staff; serve as lead trainer and protocol developer.
• Ensure compliance with SBA SOP and bank regulations.
• Organize files and communicate with customers and third parties to gather information.
• Prepare closing checklist based on loan approval/type; review third‑party reports.
• Order appraisals, title work, tax transcripts, and insurance certificates.
• Prepare loan closing documents in LaserPro and review closing statements.
• Balance multiple loan requests against deadlines in a time‑sensitive environment.
• Maintain superior customer service and represent the Bank professionally.
• Review underwriter feedback on documents such as purchase agreements and leases.
• File UCC to perfect bank lien; review Title Commitment and Closing Statement.
