Job summary

B&B Concrete is seeking a senior Reinforcing-Steel Estimator/Detailer to join our remote team. You will review drawings, perform takeoffs, price labor and material, and help establish estimating standards across projects.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years in reinforcing-steel, strong knowledge of detailing and fabrication, and experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and related software. Travel to project sites and meetings is periodic.

Qualifications

7+ years of reinforcing-steel industry experience, with preference for 10+ years.
Significant experience estimating reinforcing steel.
Significant experience detailing reinforcing steel or reviewing placing drawings.
Experience with large commercial, industrial, wastewater, infrastructure, heavy civil or other concrete-intensive projects.
Experience estimating projects involving substantial reinforcing-steel tonnage.
Strong structural drawing and specification reading ability.
Strong understanding of reinforcing-steel fabrication and field placement.
Working knowledge of ACI and CRSI requirements and industry practices.
Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, contractors, vendors and field personnel.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
A formal college degree is not required if the candidate has substantial relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Perform complete reinforcing-steel quantity takeoffs from structural drawings and specifications.
Develop accurate estimates for material, fabrication, detailing, placing labor, equipment, freight and other project costs.
Establish labor hours and production assumptions based on project-specific conditions.
Analyze bar sizes, tonnage, congestion, splice requirements, couplers, dowels, embeds and other reinforcing requirements.
Review plans and specifications for scope gaps, discrepancies and constructability concerns.
Identify project risks and potential cost exposures before bid submission.
Prepare conceptual, preliminary and final estimates.
Assist management in establishing final bid strategy and selling price.
Solicit and evaluate material, fabrication, freight and subcontractor pricing when required.
Maintain organized estimate documentation and assumptions.
Review reinforcing-steel placing drawings for detailing requirements.
Coordinate reinforcing steel with structural, architectural and MEP requirements.
Identify conflicts, congestion and constructability issues before they reach the field.
