Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a highly experienced Production Support Engineer for a 100% U.S.-based remote position within the Veterans Affairs department. You will provide day-to-day operational support for complex application cloud systems, implement fixes, and help maintain system reliability.

The role requires 8+ years in systems engineering, strong AWS/Azure knowledge, Linux/Windows proficiency, scripting skills, and CI/CD experience.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering or related field, especially production environments.
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure Cloud, notably S3, Step Functions, Batch Jobs, and CloudWatch.
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems.
• Experience with system administration tasks including user management, permissions, and system monitoring.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation and configuration management.
• Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack.
• Knowledge of cloud-native technologies and IaC tools such as CloudFormation.
• Experience with monitoring tools like Dynatrace, ScienceLogic, and CloudWatch.
• Ability to troubleshoot and optimize system performance and reliability.
• Understanding of network protocols, firewalls, and VPN setup.
• Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
• Experience with securing production systems and audits.
• Knowledge of databases (AWS RDS SQL Server, Oracle RDMBS/RDS) and backup/recovery processes.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git).
• Familiarity with GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild/CodeDeploy.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational support for cloud-based systems.
• Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
• Follow standard practices to analyze situations or data.
• Detect and resolve system outages; document issues and workarounds.
• Log problems in appropriate tools and communicate status to stakeholders.
• Interact with customers on daily activities and issues.
• Handle on-call production system support as required.
• Install/maintain computing infrastructure and enforce VA security policies.
• Document configurations, processes, and procedures.
• Support multiple projects to ensure timely completion and quality results.
