Job summary

GFT, a Power Group leader, seeks an experienced Principal Substation Engineer to lead or support utility and power substation projects across the United States. This role offers hybrid/remote possibilities and collaboration with clients to advance energy infrastructure.

You will design substations from 34.5kV to 500kV, build strong client relationships, and manage project scope, schedule, and budget. A PE license and 15+ years in power engineering are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer License required.
• 15+ years progressive experience in design, engineering and project management within power/utility.
• Experience in consulting engineering preferred.
• Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project or similar).
• High voltage substation design experience requested.

Responsibilities

• Develop substation layout drawings including plan/elevations, yard layouts, grounding, raceways, control buildings, and material lists.
• Prepare substation one lines, three lines, power systems, DC systems, SCADA and comms, relay layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Prepare calculations and client reports.
• Prepare equipment specifications for substation equipment and construction.
• Manage technical, financial, and scheduling aspects of projects.
• May serve as project manager, client manager, or capture/proposal manager.
• Mentor staff and develop client relationships across offices.
• Contribute to proposals, bids, and presentations.
