Job summary

GFT is seeking an experienced Principal Substation Engineer to lead or support utility and power substation projects. The role covers 34.5kV to 500kV, building client relationships and delivering high‑voltage/substation design and project management across multiple sites.

You will mentor staff, prepare proposals, and ensure QA/QC while expanding GFT’s power delivery capabilities regionally and nationally. Remote work may be available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer License is required.
• 15+ years progressive experience in design, engineering and project management within power and utility.
• Experience in consulting engineering preferred.
• Proficiency with project management software and tools (Microsoft Project or similar).
• Design experience in high voltage substation and distribution projects.
• Experience delivering quality technical solutions and major power delivery projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support utility and power substation projects and clients.
• Develop substation layout drawings and one-line diagrams for new and existing substations.
• Prepare calculations and reports for clients.
• Prepare equipment specifications for substation equipment, components, and construction.
• Manage technical, financial, and scheduling aspects of substation projects.
• May act as project manager, client manager or capture/proposal manager.
• Build and manage skills/resources to develop and deliver strategic services and projects.
• Collaborate regionally and nationally to pursue power substation projects for GFT.
