Job summary

GFT in Roanoke, VA is seeking an experienced Sr. Substation Engineer to lead or support utility substation projects from 34.5kV to 500kV. You will collaborate with clients and internal teams to deliver high-value power delivery solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer License.
• 8+ years experience in design, engineering and PM within power/utility.
• Experience in the consulting engineering profession.
• Proficiency with project management software (e.g., MS Project) for scope, schedule, and budget.

Responsibilities

• Develop substation layout drawings including plan/elevations, yard layouts, grounding and raceways.
• Develop substation one lines, three lines, and associated systems (SCADA, relay, wiring, schedules).
• Prepare calculations and reports for clients.
• Prepare equipment specifications for substation equipment and construction.
• Manage technical, financial, and scheduling aspects of substation projects.
• Mentor or lead a staff of engineers and specialists; collaborate across offices.
