Job summary

Altana is hiring a Principal Platform Engineer to be the technical authority for the platform powering our product network. You’ll steer architecture across multiple teams, own the platform reference architecture, and drive cross-cutting platform decisions in a multi-cloud, regulated environment.

You’ll lead architecture discussions, design provisioning for new environments and tenants, and partner with Security/Compliance to embed accreditation in design.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and operating cloud infrastructure and platforms.
• Background in SRE or platform engineering with ownership of systems used by other engineers.
• Production experience in AWS and/or Azure at multi-account, multi-environment scale.
• Strong Infrastructure as Code skills with Terraform, OpenTofu, or similar tools.
• Deep Kubernetes experience including multi-cluster operations and platform abstractions.
• GitOps as deployment model with ArgoCD or Flux in production.
• Hands-on AI-assisted development and agentic coding tools in engineering workflows.
• Understanding of regulatory/accreditation constraints shaping architecture.
• Proficient in Python or Go.
• Track record of architecture adoption across teams through influence.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical decisions and systems architecture across multiple organizations.
• Own the platform reference architecture across AWS and Azure and across environments.
• Translate company strategy into area-level technical strategy with clear tradeoffs.
• Lead architecture for cross-cutting platform concerns (ingress, API gateway, auth, SSO, RBAC).
• Design provisioning path for new environments and tenants.
• Set standards for infrastructure as code, GitOps, Kubernetes configuration, and release engineering.
• Create and run forums for senior engineers to align and review designs.
• Act as cross-functional partner in planning with product, implementation, and finance.
• Write and prototype hard parts yourself, including greenfield components.
• Partner with Security and Compliance to bake accreditation into platform design.
• Grow engineers through mentorship and review to staff/principal level.
• Assist in hiring and represent Altana’s tech work externally.
