Job summary

Intuit is seeking a Lead Tax Processor and Subject Matter Expert to guide Payroll Tax Operations. In this Level X5 technical leadership role, you will own complex escalations, approve SOPs, and coach the team to build capacity.

You will manage high-stakes tax notices across multiple states, drive compliance, and contribute to cross-functional initiatives. This role is remote with flexible hours and overtime eligibility, offering a strong rewards package.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with complex tax defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Lead/Senior SME experience with coaching/mentoring.
• Expert knowledge of US payroll tax regulations incl. local taxes and PFML/SDI.
• Advanced writing skills for SOPs and technical docs.
• Ownership of SLAs and red-flag resolution.
• Validation-first mindset with vetted solutions.
• 5+ years handling highly sensitive escalations independently.
• 4+ years in contact center/back-office enabling high-volume service.
• Comfortable using AI tools to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary real-time technical expert for TP1, TP2, TP3 staff and teach resolution paths.
• Author, review, and approve SOPs and KB articles.
• Conduct quarterly coaching sessions using SBIC model to close skill gaps.
• Lead or support daily stand-ups and QA sessions; back-up facilitator for stand-ups.
• Oversee WIP, backlog, and aging reports; advise staffing changes.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices across states and multi-jurisdictional issues.
• Approve complex amended returns (941-X, W‑2c) with audit trails.
• Identify trends and compliance risks; report with data-driven recommendations.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings with compliance-focused guidance.
