Job summary

Pirate Ship, a remote-first ecommerce shipping software company, is seeking a Paralegal to join the crew as the First Mate of Legal Affairs. You will assist the General Counsel with contracts, IP management, compliance, and corporate governance in a fast-paced, creative environment.

The role requires 2–5 years of paralegal experience, strong drafting and research skills, and proficiency with MS Office and Google Suite. Domestic travel is expected; remote work is supported with company equipment.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of paralegal experience, preferably in a technology company or law firm, with exposure to intellectual property, contracts, and corporate law.
• Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in legal document drafting and review.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and legal research tools and project management tools.

Responsibilities

• Keep Our Documents Shipshape: Assist in preparing, reviewing, and revising contracts, agreements, and other legal documents. Maintain an organized and up-to-date document management system to ensure timely compliance with legal obligations and deadlines.
• Scout the Legal Horizon: Conduct extensive legal research and analysis on various topics, such as regulatory compliance, intellectual property, and commercial law. Keep abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company and its operations.
• Help Safeguard Our Treasure: Assist in managing the company’s intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks, copyrights, and patents. Work with external counsel and internal stakeholders on intellectual property matters, such as registrations, renewals, and enforcement actions.
• Keep Our Governance on Course: Assist in corporate governance matters, including preparing documents for meetings, maintaining corporate records, and ensuring compliance with governance policies and procedures. Support compliance efforts by assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, procedures, and training programs.
• Support the Rules of the Seas: Provide support to the team by organizing documents and coordinating cross-functionally and with outside counsel. Provide general administrative support to the General Counsel, such as scheduling meetings, maintaining legal files, and handling correspondence.
• Paralegal will be required to travel domestically on periodic business meetings.
