Job summary

Optum, a leader in health services, seeks an Outpatient Coding Specialist to apply ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding for facility services. You will ensure compliance with official guidelines and client coding rules while maintaining high quality and productivity.

The role requires AHIMA/AAPC certification, 2+ years in ICD-10/CPT, and experience in acute surgery. A dedicated home office and the ability to work from anywhere in the U.S. are preferred, with occasional overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Professional coder certification from AHIMA and/or AAPC (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) held annually.
• 2+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT, and modifiers.
• 2+ years of experience in acute surgery.
• Intermediate level of experience with Windows and Excel; familiarity with EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10, CPT and modifiers for facility services per guidelines.
• Adhere to coding ethics per AAPC/AHIMA.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity targets.
• Understand APC codes and Medicare policies.
• Query physicians when needed.
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge and participate in department meetings.
