Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a skilled Medical Coder to specialize in facility outpatient coding, including Same Day Surgery. You will assign ICD-10, CPT and modifiers per guidelines, maintain coding ethics, and meet performance standards.

The role supports telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S., with required certifications and 2+ years’ experience in ICD-10, CPT, modifiers, and acute surgery. Excel proficiency and EMR familiarity are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) to be maintained annually.
• 2+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT, and modifiers.
• 2+ years of experience in acute surgery.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and EMR systems; ability to navigate Windows-based environments.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10-CPT-modifier assignments for facility services in line with coding guidelines.
• Adhere to AAPC/AHIMA ethical standards and client coding guidelines.
• Maintain performance in coding quality and productivity per QM Manager/Director.
• Understand APC codes and Medicare policies; query physicians when needed.
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
