Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum is hiring an Outpatient Coding Specialist. This full-time role (40 hours/week, Monday–Friday) supports facility services with ICD-10, CPT, and modifiers while upholding official coding guidelines and AHIMA/AAPC ethics.

Ideal candidates hold AHIMA/AAPC credentials and have 2+ years in ICD-10/CPT coding and acute surgery, with strong Excel and EMR skills. Telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S. is allowed, with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA or AAPC (annual renewal).
• 2+ years experience with ICD-10, CPT and modifiers.
• 2+ years experience in acute surgery.
• Experience with Windows PC and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Expert knowledge in outpatient coding types: Same Day Surgery.
• Assign ICD-10, CPT and modifiers for facility services per guidelines.
• Adhere to coding ethics per AAPC/AHIMA.
• Meet performance standards for quality and productivity.
• Understand APC codes and NCCI/NCD policies.
• Query physicians when needed and review coding materials.
