Job summary

Datavant seeks an experienced outpatient coder to support remote coding for hospital records. You will review medical records, assign diagnoses and procedure codes, and ensure accurate APC sequencing with high accuracy targets.

The role emphasizes HIPAA compliance, continuing education, and collaboration with hospital staff and management. Qualified candidates hold AHIMA or AAPC credentials and have 3+ years of hospital coding experience.

Qualifications

• AHIMA or AAPC credentials required or in progress.
• 3+ years of hospital coding experience or coding consulting.
• Proficiency in same-day surgery, observation, injections/infusions and ED/E/M coding.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; remote-work capable.
• Experience with encoding/abstracting software and HIPAA coursework.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Sequence codes based on documentation and clinical guidelines.
• Determine discharge dispositions and abstract data for reporting.
• Communicate coding issues to appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Maintain high coding accuracy and productivity as per site standards.
• Track continuing education credits to maintain credentials.
• Attend Datavant health-sponsored education sessions.
