Job summary

Datavant seeks an experienced Coding Consultant Outpatient to join our remote team on a PRN, part-time schedule. You will review records, assign diagnoses and procedures, and ensure accurate code sequencing and dispositions for outpatient encounters.

The role emphasizes high accuracy, adherence to HIM standards, and ongoing education within a supportive, flexible environment. The ideal candidate brings AHIMA/AAPC credentials, 2+ years of hospital coding, and proficiency across Same Day Surgery,

Qualifications

• AHIMA or AAPC credentials required.
• 2+ years hospital coding experience.
• Proficiency in Same Day Surgery, Observation, Injections/Infusions.
• Proficiency in Ancillary, Emergency Department, E/M leveling.
• Strong written and verbal communication; remote-work adept.
• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
• Annual HIPAA training and testing required.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Sequence codes based on documentation.
• Assign discharge dispositions.
• Abstract data for hospital statistics and reporting.
• Communicate improvement opportunities to relevant staff.
• Maintain coding accuracy and APC assignment accuracy; meet productivity standards.
• Track continuing education credits to maintain credentials.
• Attend Datavant education meetings and trainings.
• Communicate with colleagues on clinical and reimbursement issues.
• Operate professionally and ethically, adhering to HIM standards.
