Job summary

Datavant is seeking experienced outpatient coders for a fully remote role with a flexible schedule. The position focuses on accurate diagnosis and procedure coding, discharge disposition, and data abstraction for hospital reporting.

Ideal candidates hold AHIMA or AAPC credentials and have 2+ years’ hospital coding experience, with proficiency in injection/infusion coding and related specialties. Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• AHIMA or AAPC credential required.
• 2+ years hospital or coding consulting experience.
• Experience with Same Day Surgery, Observation, Injections/Infusions.
• Experience with E/M leveling.
• Strong written and verbal communication; remote work aptitude.
• Experience with encoding/abstracting software.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Assign and sequence codes based on medical records.
• Assign discharge disposition.
• Abstract and enter coded data for hospital stats and reporting.
• Communicate documentation improvement opportunities to relevant personnel.
• Maintain 95% coding accuracy and 95% APC accuracy; meet productivity standards.
• Track continuing education credits; maintain credentials.
• Attend Datavant Health sponsored meetings and trainings.
• Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment in responsibilities.
• Communicate with coworkers, management, and hospital staff on clinical and reimbursement issues.
• Adhere to AHIMA code of ethics and maintain professionalism.
• Be customer-service oriented and flexible; reliable and eager to learn.
• Handle high complexity of work and decision-making.
• Demonstrate strong organizational and teamwork skills.
• Comply with HIM Division Policies.
