Job summary

ProMedica, a not-for-profit health system headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, seeks an Outpatient Coder I for translating health care services into standardized outpatient codes. You will work with Epic work queues to maintain timeliness of coding, billing and accounts receivable.

You will communicate with providers, coders and clinical documentation specialists to ensure comprehensive patient record documentation and will query for clarification when needed.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in HIT/HIM or related field.
• Must be able to pass internal coding test.
• Proficient in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
• 1 year of outpatient coding experience.
• RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CCS-P certification or must obtain within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Translate health care services and procedures into standardized codes for outpatient accounts.
• Communicate with providers, coders and clinical documentation specialists to ensure complete patient records.
• Formulate, monitor and respond to documentation clarification requests to query providers for resolution of incomplete documentation.
• Maintain timeliness of coding, billing, and accounts receivable.
