Job summary

The Ohio State University is seeking an Outpatient Medical Coder 3 to join the Health System Shared Services. This remote role supports coding for outpatient and some inpatient services, requiring ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 expertise.

Minimum qualifications include an Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management and 1 year of outpatient coding experience in core service lines such as cancer, transplant, obstetrics, rehabilitation and cardiology.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management with 1 year outpatient coding experience including cancer, transplant, obstetrics, rehab, cardiology.
• 3 years’ acute care outpatient coding experience in an academic health information setting (outpatient) including cancer, transplant, obstetrics, rehabilitation and cardiology.
• Credentialed RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or COC (outpatient) per AHIMA/AAPC requirements.
• Maintain continuing education per AHIMA or AAPC and review Coding Clinics/CPT Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Code outpatient records with ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 based on medical records and coding guidelines.
• Abstract information and assign MS-DRG/APR-DRG for hospital reimbursement and ensure coding accuracy.
• Maintain productivity, conduct weekly volume logs, and participate in monthly coding meetings.
