Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an experienced Outpatient Medical Coder Edits to remotely assign CPT and ICD-10 codes for a range of same-day surgeries and complex cases. The role requires adherence to coding policies, documentation review, and feedback to physicians under supervision of the Coding Operations Manager or QM staff.

This full-time telecommute position offers flexible 8-hour shifts across the U.S., with opportunities to stay current on coding policy and participate in department

Qualifications

• Outpatient facility coding experience required.
• AHIMA/AAPC certification maintained annually.
• 2+ years of outpatient coding for various chart types.
• 1+ years in LCD/NCD, Medical Necessity, Modifier Edits, OCE/NCCI systems.
• Proficient CPT/ICD-10-CM coding.
• PC/windows, Excel and EMR systems proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT/ICD-10 code assignments for outpatient services.
• Apply coding knowledge to CCI Edits and Medical Necessity reviews.
• Understand APC codes and Medicare guidelines.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review as needed.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge per QM/Code Management guidance.
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
• Record and track charts coded, held, or missing.
