Job summary

Optum is seeking an Outpatient Medical Coder Edits to remotely determine CPT and ICD-10 codes for same-day surgeries, trauma ER, observations and complex cases, aligned with policy and documentation.

The role is full-time, Monday–Friday with 8-hour shifts; telecommute from anywhere in the U.S.; requires AHIMA/AAPC credential, 2+ years outpatient coding, with proficiency in CPT/ICD-10-CM, Excel and EMR systems. Salary ranges $20-$36 per hour plus benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• AHIMA or AAPC credential (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-A) and maintained annually
• 2+ years of outpatient facility coding experience across all chart types
• 1+ years with LCD/NCD/Medical Necessity/Modifier Edits/OCE/NCCI
• Expert CPT and ICD-10-CM coding proficiency
• Proficient in Windows PC, MS Excel, and EMR systems

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT/ICD-10 codes for outpatient surgery, ER, and observed services per guidelines
• Apply coding knowledge to analyze edits and medical necessity accounts
• Understand APC codes
• Abstract data elements during chart review when coding
• Provide feedback to providers and query when appropriate
• Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge and participate in department meetings
