Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Microgrid Project Engineer to support Energy Storage and Generation applications in a 100% remote role. You will provide comprehensive engineering support for distributed energy and microgrid projects, managing solar, storage, controls, and engines, reporting to the Chief Engineer.

You will contribute across development, design review, procurement, commissioning, and interconnection lifecycle, with a focus on PV and other power generation technologies for multiple clients.

Qualifications

• Electrical engineering degree with focus on power systems and 4–8 years in design and construction of distribution/generation/storage projects.
• Demonstrated Owner's Engineering services for PV and/or other power generation projects across multiple clients.
• Keen client focus with drive to contribute to groundbreaking projects.
• Design experience in Distribution, Substation Protection & Control, or Substation Physical.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE 1547, IEEE 386 standards.
• Ability to create One Line Diagrams, Electrical Plans/Elevations, AC/DC Schematics.
• Familiarity with factory acceptance tests and on-site commissioning of power systems.
• DER technologies knowledge including storage, solar, and engines/turbines.
• Familiarity with DER interconnection frameworks such as CPUC Rule 21.
• Experience submitting interconnection applications and studying Utility studies.

Responsibilities

• Provide resilient and adaptable power system solutions using all resource types.
• Lead with client goals and constraints to realize effective solutions.
• Work with switchgear, battery, inverter, generator, and other DER manufacturers on designs up to 35kV and interconnections at higher voltages.
• Coordinate with interconnected utilities and complete interconnection applications.
• Navigate legacy drawings and brownfield equipment to deliver accurate plans and estimates.
• Manage engineering subconsultants and construction partners.
• Represent client interests as Owner's Engineer across development, design review, procurement, construction, commissioning, and interconnection.
• Lead technical reviews of EPC and OEM deliverables for client standards and performance requirements.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and performance validation activities.
