Job summary

Leidos Energy is seeking a Senior Microgrid Automation Engineer to join our fast-paced team in Reston, VA. You will lead design and integration of microgrid control systems, EMS, IEDs, and related automation for renewable energy projects, collaborating with utility clients and internal teams.

The role involves FAT/SAT, HIL testing, protection and control knowledge, and proficiency with CAD, modeling tools such as ETAP/CAPE, and protocols like Modbus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with four to eight plus years of related microgrid experience.
• Strong knowledge of microgrids and renewable energy.
• Power system Protection and Control (P&C) experience.
• Ability to quickly learn and effectively use a variety of client software applications and databases.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
• Ability to occasionally perform field work in rough terrain to access remote project locations.

Responsibilities

• Utilize familiarity with microgrid control systems and automation technologies, such as SCADA, EMS, IEDs, HMIs, and RTUs.
• Apply understanding of microgrid concepts, including islanding operation, grid-connected operation, energy management, control strategies, and power flow management.
• Participate in FAT and SAT.
• Perform Hardware in the Loop (HIL) testing.
• Demonstrate knowledge of renewable energy technologies such as PV, wind, batteries and other DERs.
• Use experience with power electronics to interface and control DERs.
• Plan and engineer telecommunication systems and projects.
• Establish project schedules and budgets.
• Develop drawings and specifications for utility telecom system projects.
• Coordinate with internal and external teams and travel to project sites.
• Demonstrate proficiency in CAD and modeling tools and programming languages used in microgrid control systems.
• Apply knowledge of DNP, Modbus, IEC 61131 Programming, AcSELerator RTAC, SEL 5030 Quickset, GE Cimplicity, and Protocol Test Software.
