Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Microgrid Project Engineer—Energy Storage and Generation Applications to support distributed energy and microgrid projects. The role involves owner’s engineering duties, working with solar, storage, controls, and reciprocating engines, reporting to the Chief Engineer.

You will engage in design reviews, interconnection applications, and commissioning activities across multiple clients, with a focus on DER and microgrid integration in a remote, national scope.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; 4–8 years of design/construction experience in distribution/generation/storage projects.
• Experience providing Owner's Engineering services for PV and/or other power-generation projects across multiple clients.
• Strong client focus and eagerness to work on groundbreaking projects.
• Design experience in Distribution, Substation Protection & Control, or Substation Physical domains.
• Familiarity with NEC, IEEE 1547, IEEE 386 and related standards.
• Ability to create/guidance for One Line Diagrams, Electrical Plans/Elevations, AC/DC Schematics.
• Experience with DER interconnections, interconnection applications, and regulatory reviews.
• Knowledge of DER communication protocols (IEEE 2030.5, SunSpec, Modbus, DNP3) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide resilient power system solutions using diverse resource types.
• Lead and coordinate with DER manufacturers to design installations up to 35 kV, with higher-voltage interconnections.
• Develop interconnection applications and coordinate with utilities.
• Navigate legacy drawings and incomplete information to deliver plans, estimates, and designs.
• Manage engineering subconsultants and construction partners.
• Represent client interests as Owner's Engineer through development, design review, procurement, construction, commissioning, and interconnection.
• Lead technical review of EPC/OEM deliveries for compliance with standards.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and performance validation activities.
