Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Medical Records Coder II to join the Patient Revenue Management Organization remotely. The role codes inpatient and outpatient records using ICD-10-CM and CPT conventions, ensuring accurate diagnoses, procedures and reimbursement, while overseeing junior staff.

Qualifications include RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CPC/HCS-D certifications; high school diploma; there are varied experience requirements by certification.

Qualifications

• Must hold one of RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC or HCS-D certification.
• High school diploma required.
• RHIA/RHIT: no experience; CCS: 1 year; CPC/HCS-D: 2 years of coding experience.

Responsibilities

• Code medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT conventions.
• Coordinate/review the work of designated employees.
• Ensure quality and quantity through regular audits and accurate DRG/APC assignments.
• Abstract data from medical records for optimal hospital/professional reimbursement.
• Consult with physicians on coding practices and conventions.
• Maintain knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology through continuing education.
• Communicate with nursing and ancillary staff for documentation needs.
• Assist with special projects and other related duties.
