Job summary

University Medical Billing (UMB), a remote department serving Utah and surrounding states, seeks a Medical Coding Manager to lead coding operations, train staff, and implement policies. This first-level management role includes hiring, performance reviews, and driving accurate coding across service lines.

Preferred candidates will have a bachelor’s degree with related experience and AAPC/AHIMA certification, plus strong leadership in remote environments and proficiency with EPIC and iCentra.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) required with related work experience.
• AAPC or AHIMA certification preferred.
• 6+ years of directly related work experience for Manager, Medical Coding role; advanced credentials add value.

Responsibilities

• Executes coding strategy and charge capture aligned to organizational goals.
• Oversees and trains coding staff; designs and documents coding policies.
• Conducts audits and evaluates operations for improvement opportunities.
• Manage hiring, firing, performance reviews and pay decisions as a first-level manager.
• Monitor team workload, ensure accuracy across service lines >92%.
• Collaborate with leadership to meet department objectives and timelines.
• Support and direct supervisors to manage deadlines and staffing needs.
• Ensure customer (physicians, departments, payers) satisfaction and follow-through.
