Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia is seeking a seasoned Manager to lead UVA Health's coding operations across inpatient and outpatient services. You will supervise coding teams, optimize workflows, monitor DNFB, and ensure timely completion of coding activities in a remote, enterprise-wide setting.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years in hospital coding, 3–5 years in leadership, AHIMA or AAPC certification, and strong analytical skills to drive performance improvements across remote

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required. Significant (4+ years) experience beyond the required experience may be accepted in lieu of the Bachelor's degree.
• 7+ years of hospital coding experience, including inpatient coding in a large health system or academic medical center.
• 3–5 years of leadership experience managing coding operations or large coding teams.
• AHIMA or AAPC coding certification required.

Responsibilities

• Direct oversight of inpatient and outpatient coding operations.
• Manage coding supervisors and coding staff.
• Monitor DNFB and operational KPIs.
• Oversee staffing, workload distribution, and queue management.
• Establish productivity and turnaround time expectations.
• Develop workflows to improve efficiency and customer service.
• Collaborate with Revenue Cycle and clinical departments to address barriers.
• Lead hiring, onboarding, and performance management activities.
