Job summary

University Medical Billing (UMB) is a fully remote department and the premier billing office for the University of Utah School of Medicine, serving over 1,800 providers across Utah and nearby states. The Medical Coding Manager will supervise coding staff, design policies, and conduct audits to improve accuracy and compliance.

As a first-level manager, you will hire, evaluate performance, and drive departmental initiatives while ensuring HIPAA-compliant operations and adherence to Telecommuting

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 6 years of related work experience, or Master’s with 4 years.
• Demonstrated leadership, supervision, and performance appraisal experience.
• Remote work experience and HIPAA compliance awareness required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and train medical coding staff to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Design, implement, and document coding policies and processes.
• Conduct audits and identify opportunities for improvements.
• Manage staffing, hiring/firing, and performance reviews as a first-level manager.
• Ensure team meets coding accuracy targets across service lines (>92%).
• Collaborate with leadership to align coding and charge capture with organizational goals.
