Job summary

Duke University Health System is seeking a Medical Records Coder II for 100% remote work. The role codes complex inpatient/outpatient records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 conventions and supports ongoing education for staff.

A certification in RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CPC/HCS-D is required, with experience in DRG/APC reimbursement and strong communication skills. Applicants must reside in the United States and be able to coordinate with physicians on coding practices while maintaining compliance with all

Qualifications

• Active/current coding certifications required (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC or HCS-D).
• Certification must be current and hospital coding focused.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding conventions is essential.
• Experience with DRG/APC reimbursement is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Code medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT conventions for hospital and professional charges.
• Review complex records and ensure accurate/ specific documentation for reimbursement.
• Coordinate and review work of subordinate staff; assist training programs.
• Abstract data and ensure accurate DRG/APC assignment and coding consistency.
• Educate physicians and clinical staff on coding practices and documentation.
