Job summary

Optum, a part of UnitedHealth Group, seeks a skilled medical coder for full-time remote work across the U.S. You will assign ICD-10 and CPT codes for facility services, follow official guidelines, and maintain coding quality and productivity.

Eligible candidates hold AHIMA/AAPC credentials and have ER coding experience. Strong Excel and EMR systems skills are required, along with attention to detail and ethical coding practices.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC credential (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) and maintained annually.
• 2+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT, facility charging, and modifiers.
• 2+ years of experience in Emergency Room coding.
• Intermediate computer skills in Windows, including Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10, CPT and modifier assignments for facility services per coding guidelines.
• Adhere to coding ethics per AAPC/AHIMA standards.
• Maintain performance in coding quality and productivity.
• Understand APC codes and NCCI/Medicare policies.
• Query physicians when appropriate and participate in coding department meetings.
