Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an Outpatient Coding Specialist to join our team. This full-time, remote role supports facility outpatient coding, with telecommuting options from anywhere in the United States.

You will apply ICD-10, CPT and modifiers, adhere to AHIMA/AAPC guidelines, and maintain coding quality and productivity. The position requires AHIMA/AAPC credentials, 2+ years ER and facility coding experience, and proficiency with Excel and EMR systems.

Qualifications

• Professional coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC
• 2+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT, facility charging, and modifiers
• 2+ years of experience in Emergency Room coding
• Intermediate level of experience with Windows/ MS Excel and EMR systems
• Strong medical terminology and knowledge of ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding systems
• Knowledge of NCCI Edit policies, Medicare LCD/NCD policies
• Ability to query physicians when appropriate

Responsibilities

• Identify ICD-10 Codes, CPT and modifiers for facility services
• Adhere to official coding guidelines and client coding guidelines
• Maintain coding quality and productivity per department standards
• Understand APC codes and Medicare policies affecting coding
• Query physicians and complete necessary documentation
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge per QM/Director guidance
