Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Certified Coder: CPC, CCS-P, CCS, CPC-H.
• Medical terminology certificate or demonstrated knowledge.
• 2+ years of coding work experience.
• 6+ months of experience and proficiency in current billing software.
• ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding knowledge.
• Experience with third-party billing.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Professional and courteous manner when interacting with physicians/providers.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Codes medical records using CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 codes for various settings.
• Prepare, review, and transmit claims using billing software.
• Contact providers regarding coding issues.
• Search for information for complex coding questions and escalate as needed.
• Ensure codes are accurate and properly sequenced per regulations.
• Collaborate with auditors on documentation errors and payor updates.
• Assist with month-end workload and accuracy.
• Follow up on outstanding coding-related receivables.
• Initiate refunds for third-party insurance receipts as needed.
• Advise on payer rejections and denials and appeals as appropriate.
• Notify manager of denial trends.
• Respond to coding inquiries from providers and staff.
• Keep up-to-date with government and payor policies.
