Job summary

Sigma Technologies is seeking an experienced Make Ready Designer to support overhead pole design and joint-use projects for electric distribution and telecom utilities. You will evaluate pole conditions, apply NESC clearances, identify conflicts, and develop construction-ready designs using industry tools.

You will work remotely in the U.S. with occasional travel and collaborate across project teams to resolve data discrepancies while ensuring quality deliverables and adherence to client design

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or higher preferred.
• Minimum 2 years in make-ready engineering, joint-use design, or electric power distribution design; 3+ years preferred.
• Proven experience in utility pole design, including NESC application and clearance analysis.
• Proficiency with CAD or MicroStation; experience with DDS, Katapult, O-Calc or similar platforms is preferred.
• Strong understanding of power distribution construction practices and ability to learn proprietary systems.
• Valid driver's license, active auto insurance, and ability to pass background, drug and MVR screenings.
• Authorization to work in the United States; willingness to travel occasionally.
• Ability to work a standard Monday–Friday schedule aligned to Eastern Time with time-zone adjustments.

Responsibilities

• Complete make-ready and overhead utility pole design work orders to required quality, schedule, and budget.
• Review field collection/walkout data, pole information, attachment details, and existing conditions.
• Evaluate joint-use attachments, NESC clearances, pole loading, and required modifications.
• Develop construction-ready make-ready designs including replacements, transfers, attachments, guying, anchoring.
• Apply NESC requirements, standards, and client-specific design criteria.
• Perform end-to-end make-ready design and support related overhead distribution design as needed.
• Conduct permitting and easement research including pole ownership and ROW rights.
• Collaborate to resolve design conflicts and data discrepancies; ensure constructability.
• Use DDS, Katapult, O-Calc, PoleForeman, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS and other systems; perform QC reviews.
• Support additional project and design responsibilities as assigned.
