Job summary

Sigma Technologies is seeking a Make Ready Designer to support overhead utility pole design, joint-use engineering, and make-ready work for electric distribution projects. This remote role focuses on evaluating pole conditions, applying NESC clearances, and producing construction-ready designs for utility customers.

Ideal candidates have experience with overhead poles, distribution design, and platforms like DDS, Katapult, O-Calc, GIS, MicroStation, AutoCAD, or PoleForeman, and are able to work

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in engineering, drafting, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of make-ready engineering, joint-use design, or electric power distribution design experience (3+ years strongly preferred).
• Experience in utility pole design including NESC application, clearance analysis, pole loading, and construction-ready design packages.
• Proficiency with CAD or MicroStation; experience with DDS, Katapult, O-Calc, or similar platform strongly preferred.
• Solid understanding of power distribution construction practices and ability to learn utility-specific systems.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license, maintain auto insurance, and pass background, drug, and MVR screenings; authorization to work in the United States.
• Willingness to travel occasionally; standard Mon–Fri schedule aligned to Eastern Time with adjustments as needed.

Responsibilities

• Complete make-ready and overhead pole design work orders meeting quality, schedule, and budget expectations.
• Review field data, pole information, attachment details, and existing conditions.
• Evaluate joint-use attachments, NESC clearances, pole loading, and required make-ready modifications.
• Develop construction-ready make-ready designs, including pole replacements, transfers, attachments, guying, and anchoring.
• Apply NESC requirements, utility construction standards, and client design criteria.
• Perform end-to-end make-ready design and support related overhead distribution design when required.
• Conduct permitting and easement research including pole ownership and right-of-way requirements.
• Collaborate with project teams to resolve design conflicts and constructability concerns.
• Use design platforms such as DDS, Katapult, O-Calc, PoleForeman, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS; support quality-control reviews.
• Support additional project and design responsibilities as assigned.
