Job summary

Sigma Technologies is hiring for a remote Make Ready Designer with a background in overhead pole design, joint-use engineering, and electric distribution. You will translate field data and standards into construction-ready make-ready designs for major utilities, including NESC considerations and pole loading.

This role requires occasional travel and coordination with cross-functional teams to resolve design conflicts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in engineering/drafting preferred.
• Minimum 2 years in make-ready engineering, joint-use design, or electric power distribution design (3+ years preferred).
• Experience in utility pole design, NESC application, clearance analysis, pole loading, and construction-ready packages.
• Proficient with CAD or MicroStation; experience with DDS, Katapult, O-Calc or similar platforms preferred.
• Valid driver's license, active auto insurance, and ability to pass background/drug/MVR screenings.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Willingness to travel; standard Mon-Fri schedule aligned to Eastern Time with possible regional adjustments.

Responsibilities

• Complete make-ready and overhead pole design work orders meeting quality, schedule, and budget expectations.
• Review field data, pole information, attachment details, and existing conditions.
• Evaluate joint-use attachments, NESC clearances, pole loading, and required make-ready modifications.
• Develop construction-ready make-ready designs including pole replacements, transfers, attachments, guying, and anchoring.
• Apply NESC requirements, utility standards, engineering guidelines, and client criteria.
• Perform end-to-end make-ready design and support related overhead distribution design when needed.
• Conduct permitting and easement research including pole ownership and right-of-way.
• Collaborate with project teams to resolve design conflicts and field-data discrepancies.
• Use DDS, Katapult, O-Calc, PoleForeman, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and other systems.
• Perform quality-control reviews and support extra project/design tasks as assigned.
