Job summary

Sigma Technologies is seeking an experienced Make Ready Designer to support overhead pole design for electric distribution and telecom facilities. The role focuses on making-ready and joint-use design, evaluating field data, and applying NESC clearances to produce construction-ready packages.

You will work remotely within the United States, collaborating with utilities and a growing project team to resolve conflicts, perform pole loading analyses, and ensure compliance with client criteria.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in engineering/drafting preferred.
• Minimum 2 years in make-ready engineering, joint-use design, or electric power distribution design (3+ years preferred).
• Experience in utility pole design including NESC application, clearance analysis, pole loading concepts, and construction-ready design packages.
• Proficiency with CAD or MicroStation; familiarity with DDS, Katapult, O-Calc or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of power distribution construction practices; ability to learn utility-specific systems.
• Must hold a valid driver's license, maintain auto insurance, and pass background/drug/MVR checks.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Willingness to travel occasionally and work a Monday–Friday schedule aligned to Eastern Time.

Responsibilities

• Complete make-ready and overhead pole design work orders to quality, schedule, and budget targets.
• Review and interpret field data, pole information, attachments, and existing conditions.
• Evaluate joint-use attachments, NESC clearances, pole loading, and required make-ready modifications.
• Develop construction-ready make-ready designs including pole replacements, transfers, and attachment changes.
• Apply NESC requirements, engineering guidelines, and client design criteria.
• Perform end-to-end make-ready and joint-use design and support related overhead distribution design.
• Conduct permitting and easement research (pole ownership, rights-of-way, approvals).
• Collaborate with project teams to resolve design conflicts and field-data discrepancies.
• Use DDS, Katapult, O-Calc, PoleForeman, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and similar systems.
• Perform or support quality-control reviews of deliverables.
• Support additional project/design responsibilities as needed.
