Job summary

ThinkingAhead is seeking a Lead Transmission Line Engineer to build and lead the new transmission line practice. You will be employee #1 in this department, directing project delivery, serving as the main client contact, and shaping workflows and standards for a growing team.

The role offers remote work within the U.S., with senior leadership oversight and opportunities to influence hiring, processes, and growth as the practice scales.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of transmission line engineering experience or leadership.
• Ability to own client relationships and act as technical POC.
• Strong independent work style with good engineering judgment.
• Excellent communication to represent the department to clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead transmission line projects from proposal through delivery.
• Serve as primary client-facing contact for transmission work.
• Set technical standards and workflows for the new department.
• Perform structural, sag/tension, and loading analyses for 69kV–345kV+ lines.
• Prepare and stamp construction drawings and design plots as needed.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, and electrical teams on projects.
• Mentor and oversee growing department staff as needed.
• Support business development with scoping, proposals, and client presentations.
• Ensure compliance with NESC, IEEE, and utility design standards.
