Job summary

Intermountain Health seeks a Laboratory Genetic Counselor to support Select Health contract work and the Genetic Laboratory Stewardship Program. The role blends independent work with teamwork to develop, implement, and quality-review genetic testing processes.

Responsibilities include provider education on testing and billing, patient counseling, and utilization review. Remote/hybrid options exist, with potential on-site interviews and meetings as noted.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program.
• Eligibility for ABGC certification at time of hire with completion within one year.
• Utah licensure as Genetic Counselor.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience reading and critically evaluating scientific literature.
• Experience with PowerPoint, Word, Excel, databases, internet, email, and scheduling.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review genetic testing pre-authorization requests and insurance policies.
• Educate ordering providers on genetic testing options, insurance and billing matters.
• Provide occasional patient education and counseling on test options or results.
• Conduct utilization review and lab stewardship for proper test ordering.
• Participate in research projects and manuscript preparation.
• Communicate clearly with providers and patients.
• Engage in peer review and provide constructive feedback.
