Job summary

Intermountain Health seeks a Laboratory Genetic Counselor to support Select Health contract work and the Genetic Laboratory Stewardship Program. The role includes direct laboratory genetic counseling for ordering providers and patients and may involve some patient consultation.

This position can be fully remote, hybrid, or in-person with 40 hours per week. Remote work is 50% for Heredigene and 50% for SelectHealth, with licensure in Utah and ABGC eligibility required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program.
• Eligibility for ABGC certification at time of hire with certification within one year of hire.
• Licensed as a Genetic Counselor in the state of practice (Utah).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience reading, interpreting, and critical evaluation of scientific literature.
• Experience using PowerPoint, word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, e-mail, and scheduling.
• Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review genetic testing pre-authorization requests, appeals, and medical coverage policies.
• Educate ordering providers on genetic testing options, insurance and billing matters, test results, and medical management.
• Provide occasional patient education and counseling regarding genetic test options or results.
• Conduct utilization review/lab stewardship to determine proper test ordering by provider and manage high priority or complex cases.
• Participate in individual and team directed research projects with opportunities to present findings at professional meetings.
• Communicate clearly and directly in verbal and written form to providers and patients.
• Participate in peer review by providing and receiving objective and constructive feedback with peers.
