American Rivers seeks a Junior Staff Accountant to support the Finance and Accounting team in a remote capacity within the United States. The role emphasizes GAAP compliance and timely recording of transactions while supporting multiple financial functions.

The position covers Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and Compliance with IRS/OMB regulations, offering four weeks of paid leave and a robust benefits package. Remote-enabled workflow is a core expectation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; internship or coursework is a plus.
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Well organized with high attention to detail.
• Ability to take initiative and follow through with minimal direction.
• Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with geographically dispersed colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Accounts Payable: process vendor invoices with proper approvals and coding.
• Vendor File Maintenance: collect and verify W-9s, contracts, and insurance where applicable; update vendor data.
• Accounts Receivable: record payments, submit invoices to funding agencies per contract requirements, track receivables.
• General Ledger and Reconciliations: prepare journal entries, assist month-end/year-end closing, reconcile accounts.
• Compliance: 1099 reporting and support audits and grant reconciliations; ensure GAAP and IRS/OMB regulatory adherence.
