Job summary

Husch Blackwell LLP in Houston, TX seeks an IP Docket Specialist to manage docketing for designated matters. You will monitor shared mailboxes, review filings, and ensure deadlines are accurately docketed in the firm’s IP system.

The role requires 3–5 years of IP docketing experience, a 2-year degree or Paralegal Certificate, and proficiency with PattsyWave, Microsoft Office, and Excel. Candidates must be detail-oriented and able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 2-year degree or Paralegal Certificate required; 4-year degree preferred in related field.
  • 3-5 years of IP docketing experience with specific proficiency using IP docketing software including PattsyWave.
  • Strong knowledge of patent and trademark prosecution process as well as all facets of IP business workflows.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe products, and internet research; ability to prepare, export, edit, filter, sort, search, and reformat large spreadsheets within Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical abilities, and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to adapt to change and balance competing demands in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently docket for designated assignment group (multiple offices and/or shared docketing mailboxes).
  • Review USPTO and foreign filings and verify accuracy via official sources.
  • Ensure accuracy of timekeepers assigned to matters and de-docket completed deadlines.
  • Create, review, and distribute accurate matter reports.
  • Respond professionally to requests from timekeepers and staff regarding docketed dates and rules.
  • Collaborate with IP Docket Manager to improve practices and processes.
  • Process abandoned and transferred matters and assist with onboarding of incoming portfolios.
  • Assist the Docket Team with special projects and stay current with regulatory developments.
