Job summary

Adventist HealthCare seeks an experienced Inpatient Coding Specialist for our Medical Coding Department. The role requires applying ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, CPT/HCPCS, and encoder systems to accurately abstract inpatient accounts for hospital reporting.

You will ensure documentation completeness, resolve coding issues for reimbursement, and pursue physician queries to clarify discrepancies, while maintaining production standards in a remote, full-time setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Formal education in Health Information Management or related field.
• One of the following credentials: CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or CPC (CPC acceptable with CCS within 6–12 months).
• Minimum of three years inpatient coding in an acute hospital setting.
• Proficiency with coding software and HIM systems, including ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes encoder and related systems to complete the coding process.
• Abstract inpatient accounts for hospital reporting to federal, state, and organizational outlets.
• Maintain quality targets and production standards per policy.
• Identify physician query opportunities to clarify documentation and inconsistencies.
• Monitor and report documentation discrepancies to the coding manager.
