Job summary

Universal Hospital Services Inc. is seeking a skilled inpatient coder to ensure accurate DRG assignments and timely coding across inpatient records. The role uses the 3M Encoder and requires strong medical terminology and anatomy knowledge to abstract essential information from reports.

You will collaborate with the Coding Manager, CDI team, Business Office and Case Management to maintain high-quality coding standards while supporting remote work with secure, compliant practices.

Qualifications

• Three to five years coding experience required (Inpatient preferred).
• Advanced training in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and APC.
• Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology required.
• Computer skills required.
• Ability to read medical reports, interpret lab values, and abstract pertinent information from records.
• Must be able to provide high-speed internet at residence and work remotely with privacy compliance.
• Commitment to the organization’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities

• Performs the functions of all services of IP coding.
• Responsible for coding and DRG accuracy, timeliness of coding, and utilization of systems used to perform coding functions.
• Maintains relationship with Coding Manager/Supervisor, CDI team, Business Office and Case Management staff.
• Codes inpatient records, including DRG assignment and validation; knowledge of outpatient coding as needed.
